MyGuy Miyagi: Home Cookin' Spurs and Thunder 5/31/2014

If you are trying out MyGuy for the first time, we have some Guidelines and Tips to help you out.

My twitter is @HuuMyGuy. I will tweet out who I have in at the start of quarters, if any of the main stars go to the bench and if I make changes during the game. I also have this chat room for us to converse about the game in.

For more MyGuy interaction on twitter, give these peeps a follow.

Thunder Vs Spurs 9 ET TNT

Spurs
Duncan (Pts A-, Rebs A-, Blks A-, FT% B, Streak B)
Parker (Pts A-, Asts A-, Stls B-, FT% B, Streak B-)
Leonard (Pts B-, Rebs B, Asts C, Steals B, FT% B, Streak B-)
Thunder
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A, Streak A-)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, FT % B, Streak B)

PYP: Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Kabongo (Spurs) What is the PYP Player?

The pattern so far. Home teams have dominated. We've seen a bunch of scrubs late in the game. The Spurs have pulled the starters early practically every game. That might happen again. The Spurs have been bad in Oklahoma City since 2012, losing nine straight games in OKC. Will tonight be number 10?   Regardless...

My Pick- Durant
Duran has been very good this series. In five games, he is averaging 25 points on almost 50% shooting with six rebounds per game. Durant usually takes good shots and he makes about half of them. He gets on streaks fairly often and with the Thunder at home and the backs against the will, he will have to be good again.

Other 1st Tier guys- (Guys I would switch for Durant if Durant was a bit off)
  • Duncan: Duncan was very good last game. A block on a streak is a beautiful thing and Duncan has been the second best MyGuy for this series. I base my MyGuy off who is in control of the game at that point and Duncan is the best choice for the Spurs in this series.
  • Parker: Parker has been okay, if the Spurs are going to shut this series down, Tony will need to step up.
  • Westbrook: Westbrook has been pretty dominant against Parker in this series. If the Spurs change defenses and try to slow Durant down, that may free Westbrook up. (And Vice Versa)
Tier 2 guys- (I would hesitate switching a superstar out for them, but if they were hot)
  • Ibaka: Not great last game, but he's back home playing.
  • Ginobili: Wasn't shabby last game.
  • Leonard: Hasn't been in the mix the past couple of games. (Reverse Jinx?)
Switching between Durant and Duncan will probably be what this game is about.
My Rank
1- Durant
2- Duncan
3- Westbrook
4- Ibaka
5- Parker, Ginobili, Leonard

Junk Time guys to watch (if the game is a blowout)
Well. Most of these guys HAVE been playing because the games haven't been close near the end. Law of averages say we are due for a close game right? But if the pattern continues, the Thunder will be up big in the 4th and the Spurs will roll out these guys again.

Spurs bench players in garbage time:
  • Ayers will get you cheap offensive rebounds, rebounds and maybe a block. He is AWFUL at the free throw line.
  • Bonner is actually a great 3 point shooter and he's tall enough for rebounds. He did the best of the junk time guys last game.
  • Bellinelli actually gets regular minutes in the middle of the game. But he's also not out there to "pad his stats" and get his numbers. He is an EXCELLENT free throw shooter though.
  • Joseph is a guy I always think will go and get his number at the end of the game...he rarely has though. But he is the point guard so the plays go through him. Joseph played well in the last few minutes.
As for Thunder players.
  • Lamb- Remember game 2? Lamb went out and got his. He's talented enough to score. In Game 3 he grabbed three steals in limited time. I like him the best.
  • Fisher- A point guard, good free throw shooter and can get assists.
  • Adams- This kid has been playing well. He can score, get rebounds and block shots...killer at the free throw line though.

Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Bynum (Pacers)  What is the PYP Player?

7 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 2-10 shooting, 5 fouls..... LEBRON JAMES EVERYONE! And now...we have a bad MyGuy taste in our mouth. I can't believe I have to do this...but I am going to try and CONVINCE you that Lebron James is STILL the right pick.

May 11, 2010
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Game 5 Conf. Semis
Lebron James...did not play well this game
15 pts, 3-14 shooting (11 MISSED SHOTS!) 3 turnovers....MyGuy wasn't around then, don't think Lebron would have gotten +250 in any quarter by himself. What happened THE VERY NEXT GAME? This was also a game 5 in the conference finals.

May 13, 2010
Game 6
The nine turnovers aside, did much better. He hit threes, his shooting percentage was better. Along with 27 points, he had 10 assists and 19 (19!) rebounds!

June 7, 2011
Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks NBA Finals Game 4
The very next year, Lebron took his talents to South Beach. The Heat were in the Finals and James did this:
Woof. 8 pts, 3-11 shooting (he only took 11 shots?), a respectable 9 rebs and 7 asts. Another playoff stinker. He followed this one up with...
June 9, 2011 Game 5

This game doesn't blow you away or anything. But he was 8-19 (shooting percentage went up again), he grabbed 10 rebs and 10 asts, so he was doing more than just scoring.

By the way...Lebron lost both those series. (He doesn't always win apparently.)

So let's go back to May 28.
The biggest stat that stands out isn't the 7 points. It's the 24 minutes played. Lebron James averages over 40 minutes a game. The reason for this bad game is he had 5 personal fouls. James VERY RARELY gets into foul trouble. What this means is he was close to fouling out most of the game (6 fouls and you're out the rest of the game). It makes him less aggressive on defense and offense, and NBA players like to play more minutes, they get into a rhythm and they score and do other things more easily.

I haven't had a stats class in a while so I'm hoping I explain this correctly. The top of the curve is the "normal distribution." This is where the events you think will happen on a regular basis fall. Lebron will have good games more often than not; the parts at the end are outliers. Those are rare instances that you don't expect or predict to happen. Game 5, was definitely an outlier.

Tier 1- Lebron James (My Pick, yup, with no doubt in my mind)
Lebron is a Superstar....Superstars RARELY have two bad games in a row; actually, Lebron is a Superduper Mega Star! I think he WILL score 150 every quarter BY HIMSELF (as long as he plays the majority of the game). Great players like James tend to come back with a vengeance after bad performances. Maybe it's extra motivation, maybe it's extra rest, maybe the refs give him more leeway and call less fouls on him or a combination of all of the above.

I'm that confident in his abilities. I'm sticking with him as long as he is in for the most part. I think the Heat will win this, and to win, they'll most likely go through James. I don't have a bad taste from last game at all. I do remember how easy Game 4 of this series was. It was because James did this:

That was earlier this week. James will be fine. If you don't believe me. Watch this:

Tier 2- Chris Bosh, Paul George, Lance Stephenson, Good Hibbert, Dwyane Wade
  • Stephenson- He will NOT be blowing in Lebron's ear.
  • Bosh- He'll be okay, but he won't be James.
  • Good Hibbert- He'll be okay, but he won't be James.
  • Wade- He'll be okay, but he won't be James.
  • George- He'll be okay, but he won't be James. He did have a great last quarter though. But he hasn't done it as consistently as....... Lebron James.
