MyGuy Tips: 5/13/14. Pacing the Thunder & Clips

I've made ANOTHER change to the blogs. I've moved the "Tips" portion to its very own page: MyGuy Guidelines and Tips. So If you want to read the Tips you can just click the link

Too bad my job can't be as easy as tweeting: "Pick Lebron James All day, Er'r day" because that would make everything go by so smoothly. Lebron racked up 49 points and if you chose him every quarter, pat yourself on the back for getting +1000 on your score. The games today are a "tad" harder to get points. Especially if you don't follow along live.

I will be live tweeting the Pacers/Wizards game tonight close to the end. I will be available for the 4th of Clippers/Thunder (depending on how long softball runs.) Follow the discussion @HuuMyGuy on Twitter.

Pacers at Wizards (7ET TNT)
Pacers
George (Points B, Rebounds B-, Assists C+, Steals B-, Blocks C+)
Hibbert (Pts: B-, Rebs: A, Blks A)
West (Pts B, Rebs B-, Blks C-)
Wizards
Wall (Pts B, Rebs C+, Assists B, Steals B+)
Beal (Pts B-, Asts B-, Streak B)
Nene (Pts B-, Rebs B-, Blks C-)

Remember when Hibbert was being held to 0 points and cheer leading on the bench? That was soooo last week. Hibbert is producing pretty well right now. Last game Paul George was THE MAN...pulling off a mini Lebron. Paul George is the best player on the court for either team. He's also been inconsistent this series. Game 1: 18 pts. Game 2: 11. Game 3: 23. Game 4: 39. So your options are George if you want to just put a player in and leave. He has the best chance to get 150 by himself. However, if you're following along the game in real time, Hibbert is steady, since game 2 he is averaging 7 averages, 2 blocks and 20 points. He'll be consistent, and less likely to lose a streak. So Hibbert is a more steady option.

My Pick: Hibbert (because I will be following) George (if I wasn't following) or Wall (best player on the Wizards)
Blocks: Hibbert, Nene or Gortat
Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Bynum (Pacers) What is the PYP Player?

Thunder At Clippers (9:30 ET TNT)
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A, Streak A-)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, FT % B, Streak B)
Paul (Points B, Rebs C, Assists A, Steals B, FT% B+, Streak B+)
Griffin (Points A, Rebs A-, Blocks B-, FT% C+, Streak B)

If you've been watching the Playoffs, you will agree this has been the most entertaining series. The best part is, you will most likely have one of the four superstars in at all times. When one sits, you can just go to the next one. This is the "Lebron James" rule in a way, you can probably stick with Durant for the entire quarter and you will be fine. The only problem is the Thunder have Russell Westbrook as well and sometimes he takes over. I've learned not to panic and try to switch to the who I think is on a streak, more often than not sticking with one player most of the quarter works out better. That's just me... I follow Kuno's advice, "The less you do, the more you do."

I think Durant takes a break in the 2nd quarter. I would definitely move to someone else on the list and right back to him when he gets back in.

My Pick: 1) Durant (All 4 quarters) 2) Griffin 3) Westbrook 4) Paul
Blocks: Ibaka, Griffin, Jordan

PYP Player: Turkoglu (Clippers)

What is a PYP Player?

PROTECTING YOUR POINTS: Once you hit 150 points, you are done. No need to try and get 300 more, unless you want bragging rights. If you are sitting on your points at exactly 150, it's good to pick a player that has no chance of getting in. The player will gain no points for you, but that player also won't turn the ball over (-20) or miss a free throw (-10) to make your beautiful 150 points (+250 MG pts) turn into a frustrating 140 (+100 MG pts). Some PYP players are players who are injured for the year, while some are just the last guys on the bench. In most cases, try to pick a player who is out for a year.

As soon as you cross the threshold you can protect your points. Disclaimer, be careful about those FAKE POINTS. Fake points are the points that "magically" appear. IF MyGuy is running smoothly, the easiest way to find your true score is to back out and go back in. HOWEVER, since MyGuy is....let's say, buggy, you may just have to look up the plays and count up your points. You do not want to put a PYP player in when your display shows 300 fake points and all you really have is 60.

MyGuy Guidelines and Tips

Some general guidelines and tips for NBA Playoffs MyGuy:

  • Viggle gets a true "live" feed. We get a delayed feed of about 10-15 seconds. So unlike NFL and NCAA, there is no lag, do not try switching between plays, you will almost always be late.
  • At the end of the quarter (especially half time) just pick your next player. When the quarter starts, you'll already have someone.
  • Big guys (size wise) tend to do better. They handle the ball less (less turnovers) they take close range higher percentage shots (less missed shots to break a streak) and they tend to grab more rebounds and blocks.
  • Superstars are the key to this game. Superstars tend to get hot (build a streak), offensive plays run through them (more opportunities to score or get assists) and they tend to take more foul shots (2 made FTs is 2 more added to a streak)
  • Ends of quarters generally have the free throws. It's when enough fouls have been called to be in the penalty. If you see a guy get fouled on a shot attempt or after 5 fouls in a quarter they'll go to the line and you can switch.
  • In close games, superstars will stay in until the end. In super close games (within 3 points) there tends to be more fouls near the end. The last 2 minutes can be filled with lots of free throw attempts. In blowout games, they tend to send bench players in the last 3 minutes, and there are rarely foul shots. Knowing what bench players might put up shots so they can get some glory stats is good too.
  • Watching games will help you because you can see who is on the bench and not. However, you can pick and choose just one guy each quarter and you may be able to do well, Superstars tend to get hot and can rack up 150 points easy with 4 or 5 plays.
  • THERE IS A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX! After some quarters (sometimes midway through a quarter) Viggle MyGuy adds the previous points from another quarter on your total, so your score looks  high like 250-400 points. These are fake points, and won't actually get you +150. If the fake score really bugs you, the easiest way to find the real score is to back out of MyGuy and head back in. (On iPad i think this means closing the app and reopening it) This is risky because, as we all know, Viggle has problems, if you back out, you may not be able to get back in. Especially if a game is late in the 4th; games tend to go over the allotted time, if this happens the banner for MyGuy may be gone and you won't be able to get back in. If you have 300 points and only 3 or 4 minutes has passed in he quarter, you most likely have fake points)
  • PROTECTING YOUR POINTS: Once you hit 150 points, you are done. No need to try and get 300 more, unless you want bragging rights. If you are sitting on your points at exactly 150, it's good to pick a player that has no chance of getting in. I'm going to start naming a Protect Your Points (PYP) player under the teams as well. As soon as you cross the threshold you can protect your points. (Disclaimer, be careful about those fake points. you do not want to put a PYP player in when your display shows 300 fake points and all you really have is 60.)

MyGuy Tips: 5/12/2014 The Spurs will Net it up tonight.

How is MyGuy going for everyone? After an amazing First Round, this round has been a little lackluster (sans the Clippers/Warriors series). Tonight, The Heat and Nets square off early and the Spurs will probably eliminate the Blazers tonight. Which sucks because 1) that means less games and less MyGuy coming up and B) The Blazers are fun to root for.

I've moved game previews up and the Tips section has moved to the bottom.

*** Apparently, if you check into the game and start MyGuy you are eligible for the +50 bonus PER GAME. (That's the rumor I'm hearing) Anyway, you can be like me, check in for a couple minutes, choose your MyGuy and check into a higher point show. You can always go back to MyGuy through the carousal or under "My Shows."

You can follow me at @HuuMyGuy where I try to tweet extra tips during the games and I answer questions as well. Or if you want to laugh @huutransuperman...like 70% of what I tweet is awesome.

Heat VS Nets 8 ET on TNT
Heat
James (Points A, Rebounds B, Assists B, Blocks B-, Steals B-, Free Throw % B, Streak A-)
Bosh (Pts B, Rebs B+, Blks B, FT% B, Streak B)
Wade (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B-. FT% B-, Streak B-)
Nets
Johnson (Pts B+, Rebs B-, Asts B, FT% A-, Streak B)
Pierce (Pts C+, Rebs C+, Asts C, FT% B)
Williams (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B+, FT% B)
Garnett (Pts C-, Rebs B+, Blks B)

James. James. James. There really is no need to get off Lebron James unless he's on the bench. Last game he sat for about 5 minutes in the 2nd quarter. I went to Bosh in the 2nd, and he quickly got 130....before doing nothing else. This game, to me, seems like it will be a Heat blowout, so James maybe sits the last couple minutes of the game. James is almost guaranteed to get you at least +50 each quarter.

My Pick: Lebron James all 4 quarters. Chris Bosh when James is sitting.  Mirza Teletovic (Nets)  if the Heat are in blowout mode.

Blocks: Chris Andersen will get blocks and rebounds if you're desperate. Doesn't score much and is not great at the FT line.

Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Brook Lopez (Nets)

Spurs Vs Blazers 10:30 ET TNT
Spurs
Duncan (Pts A-, Rebs A-, Blks A-, FT% C, Streak B)
Parker (Pts A-, Asts A-, Stls B-, FT% B, Streak B-)
Leonard (Pts B-, Rebs B, Asts C, Steals B, FT% B, Streak B-)
Blazers
Aldridge (Pts A-, Rebs B, Blks C+, FT% B, Streak B)
Lillard (Pts B, Asts B+, Stls B, FT% A-, Streak B)
Batum (Pts B+, Rebs B-, Asts C+, FT% A-, Streak B)

Poor poor Blazers. They are just outmatched in this series. Tony Parker is tearing them up with ease, and the Blazers have no one to defend him. It's a shame, I'd love to see the Blazers win a couple of these, but I fear they get blown out again. I've been taking Duncan since game 1, but Parker has shown me that even though he won't get blocks, he's been a monster. The problem is each game the Superstars have been able to sit in the fourth, no free throws late to make up some points. And Parker and Duncan will take rests periodically. No rhyme or reason so you'll have to keep up with the game. When they sit,  I like Leonard for the Spurs or the Blazers duo of Aldridge or Lillard (Blazers use their starters way more). So this game you might have to keep an eye on to get the switches in.

My Pick: Parker. When Parker's benched: Duncan, Aldridge (Blazers), Leonard, Lillard (Blazers) in that order.

Blocks: Looking for just rebounds and blocks? Robin Lopez (Blazers) does that pretty well. He also has a decent FT%. Duncan does a little worse at FTs but scores more.

PYP Player: Myck Kabongo (Spurs)

MyGuy Tips. 5/11/2014. Clipping the Thundered Wiz with Pace

How is everyone doing on MyGuy? Better? The tips section runs a little long, so I try to make the picks section as concise as possible. Hope everyone is having a great Mother's Day!

If you're playing live this is a good way to get some extra points. (When i'm available to watch the games that is)

Thunder At Clippers (3:30 ABC)
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A, Streak A-)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, FT % B, Streak B)
Paul (Points B, Rebs C, Assists A, Steals B, FT% B+, Streak B+)
Griffin (Points B+, Rebs A-, Blocks B-, FT% C+, Streak B)

These four have done pretty well in these playoffs. I think you would have been happy with any of these four as your MyGuy last game. Paul is the oldest so he sits the most, but he's still in for a majority of the game. Durant takes his break (usually) near the beginning of the second quarter (approx 2-4 min) and he also take one small break in the 4th. These have been close enough that the stars have played throughout the game. If anyone goes to the free throw line, they should be good....except for Deandre Jordan, he's the opposite of that.

My Pick: Durant (all 4 quarters) my second pick is Paul.
PYP Player: Turkglu (Clippers)

Pacers at Wizards (8ET TNT)
Pacers
George (Points B, Rebounds B-, Assists C+, Steals B-, Blocks C+)
Hibbert (Pts: B-, Rebs: A, Blks A)
West (Pts B, Rebs B-, Blks C-)
Wizards
Wall (Pts B, Rebs C+, Assists B, Steals B+)
Beal (Pts B-, Asts B-, Streak B)
Nene (Pts B-, Rebs B-, Blks C-)

This series has been the hardest to predict and the last game the worst display of professional basketball I've seen...possibly ever. Hibbert is "back" I guess. Two game where he didn't throw up a dud. Let's say he's found his groove and he's capable of his All-Star level of play. I like him because he doesn't take long range shots often, so he's not likely to miss. He can grab rebounds to get a cheap streak going, and if he is the best shot blocker on the team so a better chance for a big reward.

My Pick: Hibbert. (But it could come down to which team is hot)
Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Bynum (Pacers)

MyGuy tips. May 10, 2014. Blazing up with the Heat.

Well...since I have some followers who are watching my favorite sport (The NBA) I thought I would jot down my thoughts since I won't be able to watch most the games tonight.

*This is for those who play MyGuy through the Viggle app. If you don't Viggle, go ahead and comment me and I'll explain that later.

I'm doing well on MyGuy this year, I think getting +250 every quarter is not a problem if you're watching live. Here are some tricks I use and what I think will happen in tonight's games. (I will not be watching because of prior engagements)

Tips:

Heat VS Nets 8 ET on ABC
Heat
James (Points A, Rebounds B, Assists B, Blocks B-, Steals B-, Free Throw % B, Streak A-)
Bosh (Pts B, Rebs B+, Blks B, FT% B, Streak B)
Wade (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B-. FT% B-, Streak B-)
Nets
Johnson (Pts B+, Rebs B-, Asts B, FT% A-, Streak B)
Pierce (Pts C+, Rebs C+, Asts C, FT% B)
Williams (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B+, FT% B)
Garnett (Pts C-, Rebs B+, Blks B)

This is a nice game, you can probably pick a player and stick with them the entire quarter. The nets use more subs and the 2nd quarter the Heat will have subs in for a little bit. I'd be shocked if you picked James every quarter and didn't at least get +50 each quarter.

The trend for this game. If you see Chris Andersen in (Heat) he may be a good play. Gets a couple blocks a game, gets a ton of rebounds, doesn't really take a whole lot of shots. If he's going to break your streak it will most likely be through a foul and not a turnover. Deron Williams (Nets) has been one of the leagues best player...but man he hasn't shown up these playoffs. He had 0 points last game...so I think he's an interesting wild card to do well. Just a feeling. Nets NEED to win this game in the worst way and hopefully Deron can get them a victory.

My Pick: Lebron James all 4 quarters. Chris Andersen if you believe in blocks and Deron Williams may get hot.
Protect Your Points Player: Brook Lopez (Nets)

Spurs Vs Blazers 10:30 ET ESPN
Spurs
Duncan (Pts A-, Rebs A-, Blks A-, FT% C, Streak B)
Parker (Pts A-, Asts A-, Stls B-, FT% B, Streak B- ]
Blazers
Aldridge (Pts A, Rebs B, Blks C+, FT% B, Streak B)
Lillard (Pts A-, Asts B+, Stls B, FT% A-, Streak B)

Another fairly easy game to pick one guy per quarter. Spurs have been doing extremely well but this is the first game in Portland for this series, Blazers will be amped up.

Trends to look for? Duncan and Parker have been rock solid in MyGuy all playoffs. They just don't have off games that often. They touch the ball A LOT, but they are older too, so they sit more often. Especially at the beginning of the second quarter. Tiago Splitter (Spurs) is the center, he's good for blocks and rebounds. Ginobili (Spurs) is the best offensive player off the bench. And Leonard (Spurs) really lit it up last game. After Parker/Duncan any of those three could be good picks.

Blazers are super young and play a lot of minutes. Game 3s the team comes back to play in front of the home crowd and it energizes them. Lopez (Blazers) if he had a rating would be Rebs A Blks A+ FT% C-, he doesn't do anything to excite you, but rebounds and blocks might be enough to score some points. Matthews was good game 1 and Batum was excellent game 2. This should be a fun game.

My Pick: I'm gonna go Duncan to start each quarter, but I'll be watching or following along for most of this game, if Lillard or Aldridge get hot, I'll switch.

PYP Player: Myck Kabongo (Spurs)

Viggle Tips for MyGuy May 9, 2014

The last 2 minutes can be filled with lots of free throw attempts. In blowout games, they tend to send bench players in the last 3 minutes, and there are rarely foul shots. Knowing what bench players might put up shots so they can get some glory stats is good too.

Watching games will help you because you can see who is on the bench and not. However, you can pick and choose just one guy each quarter and you may be able to do well, Superstars tend to get hot and can rack up 150 points easy with 4 or 5 plays.

Pacers at Wizards (8ET ESPN)
George (Points B, Rebounds B-, Assists C+, Steals B-, Blocks C+)
Wall (Points B, Rebounds C+, Assists B, Steals B+)
Beal (Points B-, Asts B-, Get on a streak B)
West (Points B, Rebounds B-, Blocks C-)
Nene (Points B-, Rebounds B-, Blocks C-)
Hibbert (depends....on a good day: Pts: B-, Rebs: A, Blks A)

1st Quarter- Paul George (Pacers) and John Wall (Wiz) are the best players in this game. I think the Wizards will win so I'm starting off w/ Wizards players. I don't trust Wall/George/Beal enough to choose them, they're good, but I don't know if they'll keep a streak up. Beal/Wall don't get a lot of blocks, George may get one. So let's look at the big men. Hibbert is interesting because he had a good game last time, but he's been an afterthought for a month now.... but i'm avoiding him. Gortat is inconsistent too, but he's a good source for blocks maybe. So that leaves me with Hilario (Wiz) and West (Pacers). Very similar players offensively, don't grab a huge amount or rebounds, and they don't block too many shots. But since I think the Wizards win...

My Pick: Hilario
Other considerations: George, West or Wall, Beal
Wildcard: Hibbert

2nd quarter-
This is where most of the starters start to take breaks. In both games the Pacers had 2 subs score some points in the second quarter, Watson and Turner both are good options. For Washington, their subs are generally not great. Beal was in to start the second both games but didn't do anything really special. He is probably one of the better players though and might get hot. If you're watching the game you can switch a little more when players sub in and sub out here. Halfway through (the 6 minute mark) teams go back to their starters.

My Pick: Beal...by default
Other considerations: Turner, Watson (for the first 6 minutes of the qtr) or anyone from the first quarter you liked.

3rd quarter-
Starters again. We have one half of evidence and we can kind of see who's playing well.

My Pick: Probably Hilario (Unless I see someone with a good game)

4th quarter-
Unless it's a huge blowout, the starters will be here too. Free throw shooting is important here, luckily for us, there isn't anyone here with a god awful free throw percentage, so I would switch to whoever is shooting free throws. (Treat overtime like the 4th)

My Pick: Probably Hilario (Unless I see someone with a good game)

Thunder At Clippers (10:30 ET ESPN)
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, Free Throws B)
Paul (Points B, Rebs C, Assists A, Steals B)
Griffin (Points B+, Rebs A-, Blocks B-)

1st quarter-
This game is much more interesting and has 4 bonafide superstars that you can ride all game if you want. Thunder: Durant/Westbrook Clippers: Paul/Griffin If DeAndre Jordan goes to the FT line DO NOT pick him...he is awful there.

My Pick: Durant... he's the best player on the court, he can shoot lights out so he can get a streak easily and he's amazing.
Other Considerations: Griffin, Paul, Westbrook (Westbrook will probably sub out near the end of the first, Paul will follow him shortly after)

2nd quarter-
Again, the stars sit a little bit out, but Westbrook's had two good quarters the last game. That's who I'm rolling with.

My Pick: Westbrook
Others: Another star, Crawford (clippers)
Wildcard: Crawford (when he gets hot, he gets HOT)

3rd and 4th-
Even though I think the Clippers win, Durant is just too good.

My Pick: Kevin Durant (rarely misses free throws too)
