MyGuy Tips. 5/11/2014. Clipping the Thundered Wiz with Pace

How is everyone doing on MyGuy? Better? The tips section runs a little long, so I try to make the picks section as concise as possible. Hope everyone is having a great Mother's Day!

Tips:
Viggle gets a true "live" feed. We get a delayed feed of about 10-15 seconds. So unlike NFL and NCAA, there is no lag, do not try switching between plays, you will almost always be late.

At the end of the quarter (especially half time) just pick your next player. When the quarter starts, you'll already have someone.

Big guys (size wise) tend to do better. They handle the ball less (less turnovers) they take close range higher percentage shots (less missed shots to break a streak) and they tend to grab more rebounds and blocks.

Superstars are the key to this game. Superstars tend to get hot (build a streak), offensive plays run through them (more opportunities to score or get assists) and they tend to take more foul shots (2 made FTs is 2 more added to a streak)

Ends of quarters generally have the free throws. It's when enough fouls have been called to be in the penalty. If you see a guy get fouled on a shot attempt or after 5 fouls in a quarter they'll go to the line and you can switch.

In close games, superstars will stay in until the end. In super close games (within 3 points) there tends to be more fouls near the end. The last 2 minutes can be filled with lots of free throw attempts. In blowout games, they tend to send bench players in the last 3 minutes, and there are rarely foul shots. Knowing what bench players might put up shots so they can get some glory stats is good too.

Watching games will help you because you can see who is on the bench and not. However, you can pick and choose just one guy each quarter and you may be able to do well, Superstars tend to get hot and can rack up 150 points easy with 4 or 5 plays.

***THERE IS A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX! After some quarters (sometimes midway through a quarter) Viggle MyGuy adds the previous points from another quarter on your total, so your score looks  high like 250-400 points. These are fake points, and won't actually get you +150. If the fake score really bugs you, the easiest way to find the real score is to back out of MyGuy and head back in. (On iPad i think this means closing the app and reopening it) This is risky because, as we all know, Viggle has problems, if you back out, you may not be able to get back in. Especially if a game is late in the 4th; games tend to go over the allotted time, if this happens the banner for MyGuy may be gone and you won't be able to get back in. If you have 300 points and only 3 or 4 minutes has passed in he quarter, you most likely have fake points)

***PROTECTING YOUR POINTS. Once you hit 150 points, you are done. No need to try and get 300 more, unless you want bragging rights. If you are sitting on your points at exactly 150, it's good to pick a player that has no chance of getting in. The player will gain no points for you, but that player also won't turn the ball over (-20) or miss a free throw (-10) to make your beautiful 150 points (+250 MG pts) turn into a frustrating 140 (+100 MG pts). I'm going to start naming a Protect Your Points (PYP) player under the teams as well. As soon as you cross the threshold you can protect your points. (Disclaimer, be careful about those fake points. you do not want to put a PYP player in when your display shows 300 fake points and all you really have is 60.)

***My personal twitter is @huutransuperman but if I'm watching the game you can follow along at  @HuuMyGuy on twitter. I'll live tweet if i'm changing a player or if a good FT shooter is coming up. If you're playing live this is a good way to get some extra points. (When i'm available to watch the games that is)

Thunder At Clippers (3:30 ABC)
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A, Streak A-)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, FT % B, Streak B)
Paul (Points B, Rebs C, Assists A, Steals B, FT% B+, Streak B+)
Griffin (Points B+, Rebs A-, Blocks B-, FT% C+, Streak B)

These four have done pretty well in these playoffs. I think you would have been happy with any of these four as your MyGuy last game. Paul is the oldest so he sits the most, but he's still in for a majority of the game. Durant takes his break (usually) near the beginning of the second quarter (approx 2-4 min) and he also take one small break in the 4th. These have been close enough that the stars have played throughout the game. If anyone goes to the free throw line, they should be good....except for Deandre Jordan, he's the opposite of that.

My Pick: Durant (all 4 quarters) my second pick is Paul.
PYP Player: Turkglu (Clippers)

Pacers at Wizards (8ET TNT)
Pacers
George (Points B, Rebounds B-, Assists C+, Steals B-, Blocks C+)
Hibbert (Pts: B-, Rebs: A, Blks A)
West (Pts B, Rebs B-, Blks C-)
Wizards
Wall (Pts B, Rebs C+, Assists B, Steals B+)
Beal (Pts B-, Asts B-, Streak B)
Nene (Pts B-, Rebs B-, Blks C-)

This series has been the hardest to predict and the last game the worst display of professional basketball I've seen...possibly ever. Hibbert is "back" I guess. Two game where he didn't throw up a dud. Let's say he's found his groove and he's capable of his All-Star level of play. I like him because he doesn't take long range shots often, so he's not likely to miss. He can grab rebounds to get a cheap streak going, and if he is the best shot blocker on the team so a better chance for a big reward.

My Pick: Hibbert. (But it could come down to which team is hot)
Protect Your Points Player (When you hit 150 in a quarter): Bynum (Pacers)

MyGuy tips. May 10, 2014. Blazing up with the Heat.

Well...since I have some followers who are watching my favorite sport (The NBA) I thought I would jot down my thoughts since I won't be able to watch most the games tonight.

*This is for those who play MyGuy through the Viggle app. If you don't Viggle, go ahead and comment me and I'll explain that later.

I'm doing well on MyGuy this year, I think getting +250 every quarter is not a problem if you're watching live. Here are some tricks I use and what I think will happen in tonight's games. (I will not be watching because of prior engagements)

Tips:
Viggle gets a true "live" feed. We get a delayed feed of about 10-15 seconds. So unlike NFL and NCAA, there is no lag, do not try switching between plays, you will almost always be late.

Heat VS Nets 8 ET on ABC
Heat
James (Points A, Rebounds B, Assists B, Blocks B-, Steals B-, Free Throw % B, Streak A-)
Bosh (Pts B, Rebs B+, Blks B, FT% B, Streak B)
Wade (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B-. FT% B-, Streak B-)
Nets
Johnson (Pts B+, Rebs B-, Asts B, FT% A-, Streak B)
Pierce (Pts C+, Rebs C+, Asts C, FT% B)
Williams (Pts B-, Rebs C, Asts B+, FT% B)
Garnett (Pts C-, Rebs B+, Blks B)

This is a nice game, you can probably pick a player and stick with them the entire quarter. The nets use more subs and the 2nd quarter the Heat will have subs in for a little bit. I'd be shocked if you picked James every quarter and didn't at least get +50 each quarter.

The trend for this game. If you see Chris Andersen in (Heat) he may be a good play. Gets a couple blocks a game, gets a ton of rebounds, doesn't really take a whole lot of shots. If he's going to break your streak it will most likely be through a foul and not a turnover. Deron Williams (Nets) has been one of the leagues best player...but man he hasn't shown up these playoffs. He had 0 points last game...so I think he's an interesting wild card to do well. Just a feeling. Nets NEED to win this game in the worst way and hopefully Deron can get them a victory.

My Pick: Lebron James all 4 quarters. Chris Andersen if you believe in blocks and Deron Williams may get hot.
Protect Your Points Player: Brook Lopez (Nets)

Spurs Vs Blazers 10:30 ET ESPN
Spurs
Duncan (Pts A-, Rebs A-, Blks A-, FT% C, Streak B)
Parker (Pts A-, Asts A-, Stls B-, FT% B, Streak B- ]
Blazers
Aldridge (Pts A, Rebs B, Blks C+, FT% B, Streak B)
Lillard (Pts A-, Asts B+, Stls B, FT% A-, Streak B)

Another fairly easy game to pick one guy per quarter. Spurs have been doing extremely well but this is the first game in Portland for this series, Blazers will be amped up.

Trends to look for? Duncan and Parker have been rock solid in MyGuy all playoffs. They just don't have off games that often. They touch the ball A LOT, but they are older too, so they sit more often. Especially at the beginning of the second quarter. Tiago Splitter (Spurs) is the center, he's good for blocks and rebounds. Ginobili (Spurs) is the best offensive player off the bench. And Leonard (Spurs) really lit it up last game. After Parker/Duncan any of those three could be good picks.

Blazers are super young and play a lot of minutes. Game 3s the team comes back to play in front of the home crowd and it energizes them. Lopez (Blazers) if he had a rating would be Rebs A Blks A+ FT% C-, he doesn't do anything to excite you, but rebounds and blocks might be enough to score some points. Matthews was good game 1 and Batum was excellent game 2. This should be a fun game.

My Pick: I'm gonna go Duncan to start each quarter, but I'll be watching or following along for most of this game, if Lillard or Aldridge get hot, I'll switch.

PYP Player: Myck Kabongo (Spurs)

Viggle Tips for MyGuy May 9, 2014

Well...since I have some followers who are watching my favorite sport (The NBA) I thought I would jot down my thoughts since I won't be able to watch most the games tonight.

Pacers at Wizards (8ET ESPN)
George (Points B, Rebounds B-, Assists C+, Steals B-, Blocks C+)
Wall (Points B, Rebounds C+, Assists B, Steals B+)
Beal (Points B-, Asts B-, Get on a streak B)
West (Points B, Rebounds B-, Blocks C-)
Nene (Points B-, Rebounds B-, Blocks C-)
Hibbert (depends....on a good day: Pts: B-, Rebs: A, Blks A)

1st Quarter- Paul George (Pacers) and John Wall (Wiz) are the best players in this game. I think the Wizards will win so I'm starting off w/ Wizards players. I don't trust Wall/George/Beal enough to choose them, they're good, but I don't know if they'll keep a streak up. Beal/Wall don't get a lot of blocks, George may get one. So let's look at the big men. Hibbert is interesting because he had a good game last time, but he's been an afterthought for a month now.... but i'm avoiding him. Gortat is inconsistent too, but he's a good source for blocks maybe. So that leaves me with Hilario (Wiz) and West (Pacers). Very similar players offensively, don't grab a huge amount or rebounds, and they don't block too many shots. But since I think the Wizards win...

My Pick: Hilario
Other considerations: George, West or Wall, Beal
Wildcard: Hibbert

2nd quarter-
This is where most of the starters start to take breaks. In both games the Pacers had 2 subs score some points in the second quarter, Watson and Turner both are good options. For Washington, their subs are generally not great. Beal was in to start the second both games but didn't do anything really special. He is probably one of the better players though and might get hot. If you're watching the game you can switch a little more when players sub in and sub out here. Halfway through (the 6 minute mark) teams go back to their starters.

My Pick: Beal...by default
Other considerations: Turner, Watson (for the first 6 minutes of the qtr) or anyone from the first quarter you liked.

3rd quarter-
Starters again. We have one half of evidence and we can kind of see who's playing well.

My Pick: Probably Hilario (Unless I see someone with a good game)

4th quarter-
Unless it's a huge blowout, the starters will be here too. Free throw shooting is important here, luckily for us, there isn't anyone here with a god awful free throw percentage, so I would switch to whoever is shooting free throws. (Treat overtime like the 4th)

My Pick: Probably Hilario (Unless I see someone with a good game)

Thunder At Clippers (10:30 ET ESPN)
Durant (Points A++, Rebounds B, Assists B, Free throws A)
Westbrook (Pts B+, Rebs B+, Asts B+, Free Throws B)
Paul (Points B, Rebs C, Assists A, Steals B)
Griffin (Points B+, Rebs A-, Blocks B-)

1st quarter-
This game is much more interesting and has 4 bonafide superstars that you can ride all game if you want. Thunder: Durant/Westbrook Clippers: Paul/Griffin If DeAndre Jordan goes to the FT line DO NOT pick him...he is awful there.

My Pick: Durant... he's the best player on the court, he can shoot lights out so he can get a streak easily and he's amazing.
Other Considerations: Griffin, Paul, Westbrook (Westbrook will probably sub out near the end of the first, Paul will follow him shortly after)

2nd quarter-
Again, the stars sit a little bit out, but Westbrook's had two good quarters the last game. That's who I'm rolling with.

My Pick: Westbrook
Others: Another star, Crawford (clippers)
Wildcard: Crawford (when he gets hot, he gets HOT)

3rd and 4th-
Even though I think the Clippers win, Durant is just too good.

My Pick: Kevin Durant (rarely misses free throws too)

Eat. Sleep. Conquer the Streak...wait, what just happened?

Wrestlemania 30 came in and, like promised, shocked the world. It brought us Daniel Bryan finally getting his moment that has been building for eight long months. It brought three of the biggest pro wrestling icons in one ring. It also brought us the biggest shock of any Wrestlemania, Undertaker was finally pinned 1-2-3. Did you hear that? It was 80,000 people in attendance (and millions watching around the world) give a collective gasp. Stunned silence; we could not believe it, some of us still refuse to believe it. Brock Lesnar's third F-5 finally ended the undefeated streak of The Phenom. We hated it and it was the completely wrong move.

I'll start by saying I was, and am, a firm believer that the streak was going to end and a proponent that it should be broken. The undefeated streak is nice but the Undertaker has a hall-of-fame career regardless. It is the duty of talent to one day put someone over and the honor of breaking the streak would give one superstar a distinction that no one would ever have again. It could literally make some one's career. Which is why I thought the streak would indeed be broken someday. I just didn't think it would be April 6, 2014 at Wrestlemania 30 to Brock Lesnar. (Sidebar: I've never been a Brock guy. I've never bought into his hype. I don't think he's as talented as some other superstars. I understand he is a very valuable asset, a brand name but I just don't put him in my top 10... well, my top 10 anything that is pro wrestling related. This is not a "I hate Brock" campaign.)

Brock was the wrong guy to break the streak. I said earlier, this distinction could make some one's career. It's safe to assume, we all know who Brock Lesnar is. He is one of the few household names WWE has alongside The Rock, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan and John Cena. He transcends this sport for things he has done inside and outside the squared circle. This is a guy that can disappear for four months off TV and come back and be a main event attraction right away. So does giving him the rub of breaking the streak really do that much for him? Jim Ross seems to think this means Brock will be the title holder in a year. Does Brock breaking the streak put him there? Brock could have just as easily forged a path of destruction next January and take the title there. A storyline could easily be put in place for Brock to get a title shot. Breaking the Undertaker's streak does very little for Brock's career. His legacy doesn't get a lift.

It's not like Undertaker has a problem putting younger talent over. Years ago, when Taker was rasslin' more than once a year, he was putting guys like Mr. Kennedy over. Last year after Wrestlemania, he worked an angle helping put the Shield over. I will address the fact that Taker handpicked Brock to break the streak later.

Speaking of the Shield, let's address my pick for Undertaker's opponent for Wrestlemania 30. Roman Reigns. How does this sound? Roman Reigns w/ the Shield in his corner vs. the Undertaker. The Shield, as I mentioned earlier, took out the Undertaker a little bit after Wrestlemania last year. There is your storyline set up. Roman Reigns looks like a superstar in the making. The build to Reigns vs Taker would have much more drama than the build for Brock vs Taker had. The build for Brock vs Taker was getting hammered before Wrestlemania and in retrospect, it looks to have real merit. Brock vs Taker seemed to be an after-thought, and the only reason it got co-main event status is because of the names involved but as far as the storytelling and drama to this match, there was very little. Part of it was due to two part time workers trying to put a program together. Look at Cena and Bray Wyatt's match, it oozed storytelling because two full-time workers were able to build drama the past month. The storytelling of Taker/Lesnar? Taker comes out intimidates Brock for four weeks and Brock gets the upper hand a week before WM. The Streak was its own entity. It should have been treated like a World Championship match. The opponent should have been built up as a legit contender to take down the streak (Like CM Punk last year). By not building Brock up, it just seemed like any other day at the office. It wasn't, and maybe Vince and the team decided let's go for pure shock value. If that's the case, they got the emotion they wanted. But shock value has a time a place, for something as prestigious as The Streak it should have been treated with more respect. The match should have been built up with the Undertaker looking vulnerable and should have closed out Raw. (Much like Taker/HBK part 1 and HBK/Flair should have been) A young up-and-coming talent like Roman Reigns would have had some fans believing that Taker could lose and I think much more respect would have been given if an up-and-comer vanquished the Streak.

Another reason the ending was flawed and the match was misplaced on the card. It sort of marred Daniel Bryan's crowning moment. The crowd never fully recovered. It took half the main event before everyone really zoned back in and truthfully, all of our minds were back at that moment when Taker was pinned. It didn't feel as jubilant as it should have felt. WWE didn't want to end with Taker losing and leaving fans in disbelief but by having that match at this Wrestlemania, Daniel Bryan's moment was not as sweet as it could have been.

The news is starting to come out that Undertaker hand-picked Brock Lesnar to beat him. I get it, we want to respect his wishes. This was not a "Best for Business" decision. Undertaker, Vince and the team should have met, discussed options and chose the successor. You don't just throw the title on anybody and I think if they had fully discussed it, they could have found a more worthy opponent. (Not to take anything away from Brock, I'm not a fan, but he is definitely one of WWE's big names right now. Can't take that away from him.)

I'm not going to get to big a deal out of this point, I also thought the Taker/Lesnar match was painful to watch. The injury to Undertaker had something to do with that, but even so, you're asking a 50-year-old once-a-year wrestler to carry a match and when he couldn't, Brock couldn't step up to the plate.

Maybe we shouldn't be calling shenanigans and screaming from the rooftops. WWE has been known to make decisions that we don't like, only to reveal a master plan three months later. This is just one of those times, that personally, I feel can't end as positively as it would have if Undertaker had won. If this was truly Undertaker's last match, it feels like it was the wrong time, wrong match, wrong opponent...just feels wrong.

My First Obstacle is Myself

I've been doing a lot of introspection lately. I'm constantly trying to better myself and work on things that make me unhappy. Which brings me to today. I had a chance meeting, wherein an opportunity was presented before me. I don't even think five seconds passed before I threw out a reason of why it wouldn't work. As the meeting went on, I just thought to myself..... "Why do I always do that? Why do I create roadblocks for myself?" Good question (probably because I asked it). Today shed light on something that has plagued me for a while now. It pains me to admit that I'm not the guy that takes opportunity and seizes it by the horn. I find reason after reason to pigeon hole myself.

I wish I could say I was writing this tonight as a cautionary tale. Or that I decided that tomorrow I'm going to change my ways, turn over a new leaf and instantly become a better me. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Maybe some of you who can't relate to this feeling (or even if you can), want to tell me "Just man up, and get over your little problem." I actually think that advice is a good start, but not particularly helpful. Obviously, if it was a switch in my brain that I could turn on and off, then it could be that easy. But I've had 29 years of training, 29 years of creating my own personal obstacles, 29 years of getting in my own way, 29 years of making up demons in my head... I don't think taking 29 seconds to "get over it" is going to work. It's like a sickness, an addiction, a way of thinking that I've been accustomed to for a long time; as the saying goes, "Old habits die hard."

So why am I writing this today? I'll tell you what's going to happen. I'm going to finish writing this. Read it over once or twice. I will hover my mouse over publish, because I'm scared to post something like this, seriously, this post scares the SH*T out of me.... so why do it? Am I asking for advice? No, I don't think that's it. Am I asking for your pity and words of encouragement? Maybe. I think if someone were to comment on this, it would actually make me feel more insecure knowing that someone read this, saw a little more into my soul and saw that I harbor a little craziness that I try to keep bottled in. Is it a cry for help, that I desperately want attention? I'll rule that out. Trust me, if I want attention, I have much better ways of getting it. (Zach Braff tweet anyone else here? Right.)

I guess the point of this post tonight is.... I want to be better. I want to improve myself. Maybe to do that, I do have to share a little of my insecurities. Maybe I can't bottle it in, and deal with it myself. Maybe I need to let my friends and family know, I have some things I need to work on. Maybe you can help, maybe you can't. Maybe there is no advice that you can give me that will make me healthier, maybe I need to seek professional help. But the bottom line is, even if you can't help, you can still stand by my side. I know who my closest friends are, I know that my family loves me. I know that I am not alone in all this. Even if you can't relate to my struggles, you will be here for me and maybe, just maybe, that will give me the strength to fix my problems. I will hope and find the help I need, and now that I have this written down, on the internet where everything is forever, I have accountability. I can't hide behind this insecure part of myself anymore. Now that you know, I have to get help and get better or you will know that I failed....but I also know that you won't let me fail.

Lines and more lines

It's like Disneyland, the lines for Black Friday, people lining up for hours trying to get their hands on the next toy. I did some quick research on two stores today. Walmart's "one-hour in stock GUARANTEE" is missing a little something. It's not exactly a guarantee. They will be passing out tickets Thursday night, and they do have a LIMITED quantity of tickets. The guarantee says that if you don't get an item that night, you will get a ticket to purchase the item before Christmas for the Black Friday price. Sorry folks, you will have to line up for these tickets...no waiting till 6:45 to grab those doorbusters.

Speaking of which, Target takes Doorbusters to a whole new level. They will be opening up at 8 this year, Target will not be passing out tickets for doorbuster items. I called three stores and was told this. (Tickets may be handed out for PS4s and Xbox ONEs) From personal experience, they usher everyone in, about 30 at a time, but as soon as you BUST through the DOORS it is mayhem! You just run to get your items... One of my least favorite experiences.

Best Buy........ if you're not currently camped out reading this right now. You probably won't be able to get the hot doorbuster items from them. (Which I still can't figure what their hot doorbuster items are.)

So there you have it. Black Friday Away!

The Days of Black Friday are Back...with iPads.

*blows dust off the blog*

Well, it's been a while hasn't it? A year you say? Apologies for my absence, it's probably because I've been trying to watch Breaking Bad...mmmmm Breaking Bad. But we're here to talk about another obsession. Black Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorite times of year (although we won't talk about how ridiculous the 6PM start times are....yet) Gauging the Facebook friends, it sounds like iPads are going to be a popular buy this year. Check out the comparisons between Best Buy, Walmart and Target.

So Best Buy is offering the iPad 2 (16GB). That's the iPad from a couple years ago, it does not have the Retina display and is obviously a little behind the times. Personally though, I had an iPad 2 before my iPad w/ Retina display. I LOVE the Retina Display.... but for $299.99 the iPad 2 would take care of all my tablet needs. Savings: $100. Compared to iPad w/ Retina 16GB: $449.99

Walmart is offering the older iPad Mini, last year's model, for regular price $299. They will also give you $100 Walmart gift card in the process. So you kind of save $100. (You still have to pay sales tax on the $299 price and I don't believe you can use the gift card on the actual purchase.) If you're doing other Black Friday shopping at Walmart you can but the iPad first and use the gift card on the rest of your purchases. Savings: $100 Gift Card to Walmart. Compared to 16GB iPad Mini w/ Retina Display: $399.99 and no Gift Card.

The iPad Mini is part of Walmart's "guaranteed in stock for 1 hour" promotion. Some doorbusters are guaranteed to be in stock for an hour, if you don't get an actual product, Walmart will sell you a claim ticket you can use to purchase the item later. The ticket will guarantee you the iPad Mini before Christmas and at the Black Friday price. The Caveat is you can just show up at 6:50. You will have to be in line as they do have a cut off of when they stop giving out tickets. Sneaky sneaky.

Target has an impressive ad this year. They're offering the older iPad Mini as well, but only with a $75 Gift Card offer. (25 less than Wally World.) But the most surprising iPad offer is Target offering the newest iPad Air for $479, $20 off the regular price? But Target is offering $100 Gift Card too....um...yes please. That's a great deal, almost too good to be true deal. But according to the leaked ad, that's the deal. Savings: $20 and a $100 Gift Card. Compared to iPad Air 16GB on Best Buy's site: $499.

Personally, I love the iPad Air deal. The iPad Mini deals are nice, although no Retina display is a huge turnoff. The iPad 2 is a good basic tablet compared to everything else, but it's only $299. If you don't get an iPad now and can wait 6 months, my guess is you'll get similar pricing on these tablets.
